Faculty and students treat patients in Belize – Robert Kistenberg, MSPO class of 2011 students Christopher Dunning and Tyler Dunham as well as practitioners form Orthotics Solutions in Fairfax, VA and Frederick MD all participated as part of a Prosthetics & Orthotics Mission trip to Belize, Central America. Over the 5 working days they designed and fit pediatric patients with 15 sets of lower limb orthoses as well as evaluating patients for an upcoming mission trip in January 2011. Two patients (one person with bilateral transtibial limb loss and one patient with unilateral transfemoral limb loss) were fit with new lower limb prostheses. The mission trip was part of the Project Hope Belize clinic in Orange Walk Town Belize, co-sponsored by Prosthetic Hope International.
MSPO faculty awarded grant- Christopher Hovorka, MS, CPO, LPO, FAAOP was awarded a grant from the Orthotic and Prosthetic Education and Research Foundation (OPERF), Chris will utilize the funds to support his research involving Lower Limb Orthotic Constraint of Movement as a Strategy for Neuromuscular Learning.
